Cartecay Vineyards

Amongst the famed apple orchards of Ellijay in Gilmer County, GA lies the county’s first vineyard, Cartecay Vineyards. Named for the region of the county in which the vineyard is situated, Cartecay, Cherokee for Bread Valley, has a rich terroir; a combination of factors, including soil, climate and environment, that gives our wines unique and distinctive character.
We believe that the terroir of Cartecay allows our vines to grow, age and produce grapes of the highest quality, which in turn allows us to produce wine of the highest quality.
We currently grow Merlot, Vidal Blanc, Traminette, Norton (Cynthiana), Catawba and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes on a total of 13 acres. We plan to expand to approximately 25 acres in the years to come. Our tasting barn currently offers three Cartecay Vineyards’ wines, 2010 Merlot, 2010 Vidal Blanc and 2010 Chimney Blush, as well as other North Georgia Wines from Habersham Winery and Crane Creek Vineyards. In the years to come we will have more Cartecay Vineyards’ wines as our vines age and our vineyards grow
