Chateau Meichtry Vineyards
In 1921, at the age of 25, Stephan Meichtry came to America from Switzerland with only a suit case and an adventure for life. He settled in Maspeth, New York, where he would later raise his two children and develop his passion for wine. It is believed that when he came to America, he brought his own root stock from Switzerland and grew the vines he used for his lifelong winemaking. A stock from these same vines is now planted at the Chateau Meichtry Vineyard. Stephan passed in 1990, leaving his love for life to his daughter Doris and appreciation for viticulture to his Granddaughter Karin. Please share in our dream with us, while enjoying a Chateau Meichtry wine, in a picturesque setting in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains.
At Chateau Meichtry Family Vineyards our wines are an expression of the terroir and the microclimate of an elevation of over 1800 feet . We currently grow Norton, Seyval Blanc, and Noiret. We have future plans to plant Sangiovese, Cab Franc, Vidal Blanc, Toriga, and Traminette.
